Component of fit

Definition

Supplementary fit or similarity fit

Compatibility in which the individual and organisation are congruent [14, 20]. This component emphasizes the consistency of the person and the values, goals, and “personality” that permeate the organisational culture.

Complementary fit

Fit in which the individual or organisation fills a gap in, adds something unique to, or “makes whole” the other [20,21,22].

Needs-supplies fit or supplies-values fit

A feeling of fit in which the needs, inclinations or requirements of the person are fulfilled by the organisation, e.g., desire for further training or support [14, 23].

Demands-abilities fit

Fit in which the individual has the required capability and capacity to meet the demands of the organisation [14].
